Delavan!

I had intended to share a recipe for Gourmet’s Black Pepper Buttermilk Biscuits to accompany the Souther Fried Chicken and Mustard Vinaigrette Green Beans from last week, but, quite frankly, I wasn’t crazy about them.

They had a few things going for them, in that they were easy and took less than 20 minutes of prep time, but the result wasn’t exactly what I was looking for – they were nice and airy, but didn’t have enough flavor. I’ll tweak the recipe, post at a later date, and let you decide for yourselves.

In the meantime, I have been meaning to post about a recent weekend trip out to the Wisconsin Lakes.

It is amazing how many veggies I’ve been eating since joining a CSA. I didn’t eat this many when I was a vegetarian (a long, long time ago), but it’s hard not to when half of your refrigerator is filled with them every week.

The funny thing about these veggies and greens – it’s been mostly greens since the start of the season – is that they actually do a bang up job of filling me up. I’m not the person that thinks “Hmmm… arugula sounds good,” when my tummy’s growling. I’m more likely to think that a grilled cheese, fried chicken, or a salty peanut butter cookie will do the trick, but rummaging through a fridge stocked with such a copious amount of veggies, just to find the one fat-laden item, brings on such a crushing tidal wave of guilt that words fail me to describe its strength.

Sometimes, I just don’t know what to make of myself…. I am always one thing and then the other. I was far too shy to put a picture of myself on the ‘About’ page of Besotted, opting for a picture of soon-to-be delicious cupcakes instead, but here I am, posting a video of myself cooking Grilled Poundcake with Cherry Sauce.

In fairness, the video was produced for a Bobby Flay cooking contest that I entered (and, sadly, did not win), which explains the flagrant promotion of Columbia Crest Wines, the contest’s sponsor, in the video.
